6 Creative Ways to Work on Macramé At Home

Getting started on a craft is hard enough, right? But how about when you finally get all of your materials together, you're totally motivated to start — and then you realize you don't know where to hang your project. Been there, and it's frustrating. Here are 6 around-your-home ideas to get you going!

1. A Clipboard

Clipboards are great for small projects. You can clip the ring from a plant hanger or a dowel for a wall hanging right onto it. It's also portable so you can work from anywhere. Cork pads are a great option if you're working on detailed knots and want push pins to hold cords out of your way.

2. A Clothing Rack

Portable clothing racks are one of the best options for macramé — portable, affordable, and adjustable in height so you can sit or stand while working. I got mine for about $13. S-hooks are a must-have.

3. Your Closet Rod

If you don't have a clothing rack and don't want to buy one, your closet rod works just the same — just not portable. S-hooks come in handy here as well.

4. The Back of a Chair

Not all chairs are the same, but hopefully it's easy enough to place an S-hook or two and start knotting. If not, tie a piece of cord around the chair and hang your S-hook from that.

5. A Pegboard

This method requires wall installation, but if you're serious about macramé I highly recommend it. It's sturdier than a rack, you can hang everything around you, raise or lower your project as you work, and it gives you a level surface for straight cuts. Let me know if you want a full DIY post on this!

6. Tape

If all else fails — tape! Masking tape on a desk or wall is not glamorous, but it works. I always tape my tape down because I knot pretty tight and need to tug on the rope without things shifting.
